Attorney Profile

Mark L. James

Attorney · Criminal Defense & Family Law

Mark James is a Louisiana attorney focused on criminal defense and family law. He was born and raised in Franklinton, Louisiana, where he grew up in a family committed to service. His father is a physician, and his grandfather served as a judge, which gave him an early appreciation for both the legal system and the responsibility that comes with helping others.

Before entering private practice, Mark served as a prosecutor and maintained a conviction rate exceeding 92 percent. That experience gives him insight into how cases are built and how prosecutors approach trial, allowing him to better identify weaknesses in the State’s case and defend his clients effectively.

Mark earned his degree in Communication Studies from LSU. He is married to a registered nurse, and together they are raising five children. His family life keeps him grounded and shapes the way he approaches his work, with a strong focus on protecting and advocating for others during some of the most difficult times in their lives.

Today, Mark represents clients facing serious criminal charges as well as individuals involved in complex family law matters. He is known for careful preparation, strong case strategy, and clear, direct advocacy in the courtroom. Mark works closely with his clients and their families to make sure they understand the process, their options, and what to expect at each stage of the case.

He serves clients throughout Southeast Louisiana, including St. Tammany, Washington, and Tangipahoa Parishes.
